Breakfast foods: Acai Bowl

Sunday 2 February 2014

"Life is way too short to eat crap food."

Acai bowl for breakfast: Topped with almonds, granola and cranberries.

Breakfast is without a doubt one of my favorite meals of the day (assuming I get up early enough to make it). And going into your kitchen to create something nourishing and wholesome is one of the best ways to break the fast and welcome a new day.

Acai is something that I've read about on food blogs for awhile now. So, after becoming somewhat infatuated and catching a glimpse of something similar a couple of weeks ago on Ella's instagram, I thought I'd give it a go and start creating these breakfast bowls.

I was so excited to try out something new and the acai bowl is so refreshing and energizing. However it is expensive to get your hands on some of the ingredients, but it's definitely well worth it. Alternatively, you can remove some of the ingredients and add something else you enjoy. Alter this recipe suited to you! I hope you enjoy this breakfast, however you choose to prepare it.

You will need:

- 1/2 - 3/4 cup of almond milk
- 1/3 cup of acai juice
- A handful of frozen berries (I use strawberries and blueberries)
- 1 frozen banana
- Toppings of choice may include: granola, sliced banana, dried cranberries, almonds, chia seeds. (Anything you'd like)

Blend all the ingredients until it forms a thick consistency. Transfer it onto a bowl and finish by adding your toppings. Dig in and enjoy!
